Tips on how to strum up and down on guitar hero?

Do you push down with your thumb and up with your index finger or just hold it like you would a guitar pick please help?

Personally I hold it like a guitar pick but I've seen lots of people doing differently.  Its hard to change once youve started a certain way so do whatever feels most natural for you!

hold it like a guitar pick, it gives you more control

strum down with your thumb like a real guitar pick and still have the whammy bar under the rest of your fingers on that same hand so you can do extra special long notes.
