Question:

Tips on making REALLY frightening ghost stories?

My story is like a compilation of ghost stories. The main one is entitled "The Campfire Stories" It is all about Girl scouts in a forest and each one of them tells a ghost story. Some tell stories about ghost stories that happened on that same place. I've already made one, it is entitled "Three Girls By The Road"

I want to write some more stories but more scary! Like the ones you see or read on sites. Tips?

  1. Write a story about that amazonian fish that swims up your p***s when you take a pee in the river. It then sits in your nob and eats you from the inside out. It has to be surgically removed, i cant imagine a more scarier prospect.

  2. These stories might give you some ideas

    1st story:

Once there was a married couple. They were very happy at the arrival of a newborn baby boy but they needed decorations for the baby's room. So the couple go to the store and find a picture of an adorable baby holding one finger up. The couple hang it up in the room and put the baby to sleep. In the morning the couple finds the baby in it's crib dead with blood all over. They look at the picture and now the baby in the picture is holding 2 fingers up as for the second kill. It was very tragic but the couple has another baby (a girl) they put the baby in her crib and in the morning they find the baby dead with blood all over and the baby in the picture is now holding 3 fingers up. the couple become very mad so they sold the picture. Another couple comes up and buys the picture. And you probably know what happens then.

    2nd story:

There was a couple that had two children. The couple decided to hire a babysitter to watch over the kids. Once the parents leave the babysitter puts the kids to bed then starts to watch t.v. The phone rings. She answers it, "Hello (family's last name) residence." a man's voice answers," I'm on my way." in a scary voice. The babysitter thinks it's a wrong number and hangs up and watches t.v. again. Awhile later the phone rings again. "Hello (family's last name) residence." the man answers, " I'm getting closer!" this time the babysitter panics and hangs up. Awhile later the phone rings again. "Hello!?" the answering voice says, "I'm almost there!" the babysitter panics even more and hangs up. About 5 minutes later the phone rings again. "Hello!!!?" she nearly shouted. The answering voice says, "I'm here!" this time she hangs up and runs upstairs to check on the kids but unfortunantly they were dead. She runs back downstairs to call the parents but a man with a sharp knife stops her and kills her.

    3rd story:

A couple (boyfriend and girlfriend) in their teenage years were driving to a concert. When they arrive there are police cars parked around where the concert is. The boy says "Stay in here while I go check it out. If you hear two knocks on the window that means it will be me." so the girl agrees. A long time later she hears a thump thump and she realizes its the boy. The thumping continues. She thought she would just peek out to see what was going on. She then see her boyfriends head tied to a rope which is tied to a tree swinging and hitting the window to make the thumping noise.

    4th story:

Two girls in college shared a dorm. One night, one of the two girls goes to a party. The second girl stays in the dorm. Before the first girl leaves the second girls says,"If for some reason you forget something and need to come back keep the lights off." The first girl agrees thinking that not turning on the lights means that the second girl will be sleeping. At the party the first girl says, "Oops I forgot my purse!" and decides to go to the room and remembered what the second girl says about not turning the lights on. She grabs her purse and returns to the party. Once the party is over the first girl returns to the dorm to find police everywhere. She spotted the police looking at a mirror covered in blood spelling out: Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the lights?

  3. The scariest stories are the ones that seem most likely to actually start happening to people... part of why kids scare so easily is they don't have the same grasp of the world as adults, and so it seems perfectly plausible to them that their toys will come to life and slaughter them in the night.

Even then, playing off people's fears of strange noises or strangers breaking into homes can still work. Try to think of something horrible, that theoretically could happen to THEM. For example, when I was in about 6th grade, I recall a friend of mine terrified me by swearing that someone was murdered in the school bathrooms "a few months ago" and the killer was never found but last week they found a bloody knife in there so he was probably still around (though doubtless in a little suburb like we lived in, it would have been major news had such a thing really happened.) Still, made me afraid to go into those bathrooms alone.

  4. Don't write it EXPERIENCE it.

  5. Don't use camp stories. Take some simple thing and make it scary, like a

mirror - I read a book called Reflection - it was about the mirror monster and couldn't look at my reflection for days. Like in the movie Poltergeist the TV is the "trigger" object. Try writing a story about something shadows - they're scary.

  6. Yesterday night I was watching a show on cable called "Paranormal State" on A&E. You can probably get ideas for your book if you watch that show. Make sure you don`t watch the show alone, it`s so scary.

I also like to watch " A Haunting" on Discovery Channel.

These shows are based on real life ghost stories, and hauntings. I advise you not to watch alone.

Also watch "Ghost Hunters" on scifi channel.

  7. make it super creepy and make A SCARY twist in the end thats what always creep me out like for example a girl is talking to her friend thats in the back seat and shes saying weird stuff and then you turn around and her head is off..stuff like that is the creepiest

  8. Make the stories meant to be told to an audience. When the scary climax comes up, you POP out at one of the listeners in the audience to frighten them.
