Question:

Tips on making mouse cage smell better.

I have had my 2 mice for a little more than 2 months now and the smell is really starting to bother me. I changed the bedding to Carefresh because of all the good reviews. Even with the Carefresh, the cage still smells. Is it safe to put some baking soda on the base of the cage? Any other tips would help.

  1. I use cedar bedding for my pet rats and all you can smell is the cedar.

  2. I would clean the cage AT LEAST weekly. When I had mice for a short time, I cleaned their cage every other day. This really helped keep the smell down.

Cleaning often is much easier to do than figuring out a way to mask the smell.

  3. Dont put baking soda in it if they can reach it and eat it.

every week to 2 weeks you need to empty out the cage and take it outside and scrub it down,Use like dawn dish soap, just make sure all the soap gets rinsed off. If you dont scrub the cage at least 1-2 times per month the urine starts to build up and the stench builds!

  4. Well I have two dwarf hamsters but I use Carefresh too. They have a small aquarium as a cage which is really easy to clean. I change the bedding and clean the cage every week. Every time I spray the cage with this thing called Clean Cage. It's a deodorizer and works pretty well! I also put a squirt of Bi-Odor in their water. Bi-Odor's a urine deodorizer. I don't know how it is with mice, but my hamster's pee is like the worst! So that might help too.
