I can go really low on the sit spin and rotate 2 or 3 times but them i just fall down and can't get back up. If I go higher I can go up but i can still only do a couple of rotations. how can i improve my sit spin? also are there any off ice things i can do?

  1. to sort out the strength problem so squats off the ice, try to do 50 a day and jst do in it the actual sit spin position. this builds up strength in the quad muscles so that you can push yourself up when spinning.

for more rotations its difficult to say what to change because you havnt actually said what it is which stops you spinning.  if you just dont have any speed it is to do with strength and more rotations will come with time however some tips:

keep your back straight and do not hunch over as this will bring you to far towards your toe pick and bring you off balance

do not stretch over you leg but sit into the spin comfortably, this may sound dumb coz its a sit spin but you should not try and reach your arms out far ie stretching your back

dont whip your free leg around too fast because it will throw you off balance, try and bring your free leg and right arm (CCW spinners) around at the same time

make sure your knees touch. there should not be a gap between your knees because you will drop onto an inside edge and fall over. plus it looks silly

finally get a good entry!!! good entrys make spins 100 times better especially the sit ive found

sorry this answer was a bit long winded but i hope it helps

    good luck!!!

  2. urghagoo im working on my sit change sit right now. mostly wat i do is i drop my hip and then s***w up lol. also make sure u bring ur hands together in front of u and ur thighs should touch, i think squats and maybe wall sits off ice should help. best of luck!

  3. try it with your boyfriend

  4. just work on it off ice...like the pushing up part! :P

  5. It sounds like you need to improve the strength in your quad, which is the big muscle on the side of your thigh.  Have you tried using your hand to assist you?  If you put your hand on your skating knee, you can use that to push yourself back up.  As time goes by and you get better at it, you won't need to use your hand to assist you any longer.

For more rotation, I'm wondering if you're getting down too low on the sit spin and slightly rocking back and forth on your blade (I do this all the time. . .I find it difficult to hold the position up a bit higher without a hand assist, so I tend to get down really low and have balancing problems).  Make sure you're not too low to the ice and also make sure your entrance into the spin gives you enough speed to continue rotating nice and fast.

I have a few sit spin videos on youtube if you need some examples.  You'll have to dig a bit, but if you type in the name "matokah" you should be able to find some of my videos.

Just keep at it.  Trust me, it'll eventually come!

    Good luck!
