Let's face it, in this day and age, saving money is the only way to survive, eating out less, and driving less.

With gas prices being so high, what are some things that you do to earn money, save money, or get the essentials cheaper?

  1. As you say, saving your money is the way to go. Thinking from a macroeconomic point of view though, if everyone saves, this represents a leakage from the circular flow of the economy, which drives the economy further into recession.

  2. you need to start hording food and winter clothing.  Pick out which two of your family members you can really trust.  Money will soon be worthless and your computer and internet connection will soon fail.

  3. Bus bus bus... I have a goal of busing it 2x a week to work.  I used to think busing in my metro area was horrible. Because, I was lazy and thought the bus should run right by my house. Now, I have found out I live right in the middle of about 5 bus lines.  All within a mile of my house. So, I can ride it just about any time of day.  Not everyone runs all the time. But, I made spread sheet.  As long as I am not going out after midnight or coming home before 6 am, i can bus ride it everyday.  Eventually, that is my goal.

I unplug everything except my fridge and stove when I leave my house. EVERYTHING... Fans, television, computer, lamps, microwave, cell phone charger, radio/clock...

ALL WASTES POWER. I live in a 1 bedroom apt. And, my monthly electricity bill is below 20 dollars.

Stopped eating fast food. It seems so cheap. But, two or three times a day and you have spent 10-15 dollars.  Spend 50 dollars a month on basics like pastas, sauces, canned vegetables, kool-aid, sugar, bread and eggs. Then, you will not have to spend much filling in the rest of your meals.  You can easily blow 400 - 500 a month eating c**p fast food.  400-500 dollars is enough groceries to last me three months atleast.
