Tips on traveling Oregon

My boyfriend and I would like to visit Oregon around December. We are on a budget and I was wondering if anyone was familiar with Oregon and/or could offer any tips for our vacation.

While campgrounds may be an awesome way to travel around the NW on a budget, I think the previous poster missed that are going to be there in December. Not a good time to camp!

One thing to remember about Oregon is that they have some of the best public transportation systems in the nation. You can travel between many locations for very little money. For example there is transit between Portland and Salem (state capitol) for under $4 one way. Amtrak rail also has extensive service in Oregon.Good Luck!

If you're on a budget I'd suggest hitting the camp grounds.  We have a lot of beautiful wilderness here.  When I was young our family took and extended vacation and camped at a lot of the campgrounds up the Oregon coast.  There are a lot of natural landmarks to visit, and most of the time a campground to go with it.  You can visit the interpretive centers of many of these campgrounds  and read about the history of the area.

Also, if you're making a coastal trip I suggest Newport.  The bay front in Newport, Oregon has a lot of fun little shops to visit, in addition to the Wax Works Museum, Undersea Gardens and Ripley's Believe It or Not.  You can get a deal for going to all three.  You can also visit the Newport Aquarium, which I do highly recommend, however it can get a little pricey.
