I am planning a trip to the Bahamas for April (My Birthday!) We will fly into Nassau, and I want to stay at a bed and breakfast or vacation rental, but seeing as how Ive never been there before, I dont know which island I should go to. We'll be there for 7 days, and want to do as much as we can: lay on beaches, water sports, kyaking, hiking, as well as shopping and soaking up the culture (or tourism:)) Do you have any suggestions or travel tips for me? Oh and how easy/cheap is it to get from one island to the next? Thanks~!

  1. I would suggest an all inclusive. Its generally like 1000-1500 dollars a person but it pays for flight both ways, resort/hotel, all meals, all alcohol, and sometimes water sports. A travel agency I recommend that doesn't charge you is Travelbyjen.com they have always found my family FANTASTIC deals! I am going to Cabo this June for 1000 for 7 nights. But thats also more than you will be paying since you are going in April (thats not peak season) I would look at TravelbyJen.com I recommend Cabo or Cancun. I think the bahamas are overrated honestly. All inclusive is definitely the way to go.

  2. Depends on where you want to go..

Nassau (Gov't Center, casinos, cruiseships and Thousands of Tourists)

Freeport (more laid back with a few resorts spread out -)

Out islands - more relaxed... not much shopping or entertainment.. but certainly worth it.

Check out Andros, Abaco, Harbour Island or Eleuthera to start..

Some island are accessible from nassau via Bahamasferries.com

  3. I have to agree with Kayleean...Of all the islands I've been to, I was really disappointed  in the Bahamas...I  was in Nassau and Paradise Island. The smaller islands may be better (Abaco, etc.), but there are few B&B's or Inns, and virtually no hiking...the shopping basically consists of straw bags, beads, and tourist items.

My favorite island is St. Bart's, which has everything that you listed, and teriffic French culture;  it's low season after april 15-18th. You might want to look at Negril-gorgeous beaches, rainforest excursions, culture-some shopping.
