  1. My Mom, a grand champion at the Florida State Fair, tried to teach me. It does not make sense to me. I can knit but not crochet. Check with older relatives or at the local retirement home. You may find someone who is lonely & would love your company in return for teaching you. Good Luck & keep at it.

  2. When I started out, I used a bigger hook.  It helps you see where to put the stitches better.  I would also recommend you start with something small, like a scarf, rather than something big like a blanket.  That way you won't feel so overwhelmed if you decide that crocheting isn't the thing for you.

I have only been crocheting for two years and have completed over 30 projects, but even I have to watch videos online to figure out what the heck something means!  Here are some of sites I use:

    http://www.iamintheloop.com/artofcrochet...

    http://www.hassdesign.com/StitchLegend/

....but these sites are my favorite:

    http://www.freepatterns.com/content/cont...

    http://www.nexstitch.com/v_crochet_video...

    http://youtube.com/view_play_list?p=FFF1...

These sites are just great for information:

    http://crochet.about.com/od/learnbasics/...

    http://www.crochetcabana.com/tutorials/i...

I use Crochet Cabana all the time for information.  She does a great job of explaining things.

And these sites are great for patterns:

    http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PHPSES...

    http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Croc...

  3. www.lionbrand.com has a bunch of free patterns and they are "ranked" as easy, beginner, intermediate and so forth.  sign up for the newsletter that they email out a couple times a month... they advertise new free patterns and blogs and such...  they also have a learn to crochet area that has step by step instructions with pictures/diagrams that are pretty easy to follow....   Another good kit to buy is sold at Wal-Mart and some of the big name craft stores is "I taught myself to crochet"  it comes with a few needles and a book of instrucitons (even for left handed people) and some simple beginning patterns... this also has easy to follow instructions and diagrams.

    other tips:

    1. don't use the fancy yarns until you learn the basics... they are harder to work with and you will get frustrated

    2. take your time... it may look easy but it does take practice to make it look good... so if your first project doesn't look real good its ok... just keep trying

Email me if you want and I can try to help you
