I wonder to do swimming as my cross-training during my off season. What are some steps that can help me?

Should I join a swimming club?

Should I go to nearby junior college and enroll a class?

Should I ask some my friends who are swimming athletes?

Should I check out some swimming book from library?

Or should I search from the internet?

  1. I would recommend checking some places in your area and talk to the people running it. You don't want to find yourself with five year olds and you definitely don't want to be in over your head. Places like the YMCA and other pools offer swim classes, but like I said I would have to check it out first. If you find a class, great! and then you can go to your friends once you've got a decent start, or if your friends are patient than maybe they'll get you enough of a base so you can join a little more advanced class, swimming is something you really need to do to learn. A book or the internet could help, but really won't do any good alone.

If you are in an environment where it's safe and your with someone that knows a thing or two but not a lot here are some tips: you should start out with the really basic things. You should make sure you're good floating, breathing, and that you're comfortable. Then go on to kicking on your stomach, back, and side. (practice techniques like streamline and pushing off the wall) After that try adding arms... If you're brand new it'll be even harder if you just try freestyle off the bat. good luck.

  2. SWEEM at the beach!
