i've been walking around at 3 cm dilated and 50 effaced for about a week now. i'm about 36 1/2 weeks prego and my doctor said i am not going to make it to the due date he gave me (he thinks he was a week or 2 off so i could be 38 1/2 at the most.). i'm pretty sure i lost my mucous plug.. and the baby has definitely noticeably dropped. The doctor can already feel his head. yesterday i started getting horrible cramping while walking (i think it could be contractions but not sure), and ive also had really bad indigestion and soft bowel movements for 2 days now, and i've felt really sick as well.. i already went through a few days of that "nesting" thing everyone talks about.. how much longer do i have? and is there any way to make my contractions more regular? i heard things about raspberry tea.. and i've already been walking alot. oh ya.. this is my first baby.

  1. Your baby will come when it is ready. There is nothing you can do to speed it up- well besides the drugs in the hospital, and no way to tell when it will be here. Just bear with it, be patient. Your little guy/girl will be here before you know it.

  2. You can walk around 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced for several weeks.  The baby can drop as much as a month in advance.  That's happened to me.  And a friend recently had her baby drop at 34 weeks and couldn't believe she'd make it past her due date as she usually does, but she did.  You can have lots of excess mucous in the last few weeks.

Do not get your heart set on the baby being born in the next couple weeks.  It may happen, but there's a good chance it won't.  First-time moms usually go over their due date, and none of your signs are proof that you'll have the baby soon.  Be ready just in case, but be prepared for the possibility of the baby not coming for over a month.

  3. You do need to walk a lot to encourage things to start moving.  However, it's important that you are getting enough rest and most importantly drinking enough water!  Labour is just around the corner and if you're tired and dehydrated it'll make it a lot worse for both you and baby.

Try to stay positive (I know it's rather difficult), but this is just the first step of what you'll be doing for your little one.  It could still be a week or so until things start moving or it could be five minutes.   Every woman and baby is different.

    Good luck!

  4. Stay positive and move a lot! Good Luck!

  5. the raspberry tea ripens the cervix. Walking is the best in my opinion to maybe get contractions going. BUT you still have quite a bit of time to go, and if it's not time for labor, it won't happen anyway

  6. Having s*x is a quick way to speed things along.  If you don't want to go that route then walk, walk, walk.  But I bet it won't be more than a few days for you.  Good luck.  I still have about 7 months to go.

  7. try to get as much rest as you can while you can coz you wont have much time soon!! Its so frustrating isnt it. I was 3cm for days and 7 days overdue when i had a sweep. I did the walking thing and nothing happened but as my midwife told me " an apple only drops from the tree when its ripe" ha ha ha. good luck, not long now...
