Question:

Tired of wearing orthotics!?

My daughter is tired of wearing her custom-made orthotics, because she always has to wear her gym shoes. She wants to wear flip flops, open shoes, stylish shoes, etc. She is 12 and wants to fit in with the other girls.

Do they sell open shoes (sandals) that will support her over pronated feet?

Is surgery an option? One podiatrist said (when she was 6) that when she turned 12 they could do surgery. I have an appt w/podiatrist next week to discuss this further.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions.

  1. I had an option of getting orthotics made, but was told that I would never be able to walk barefooted without pain associated with it, so I opted for the surgery, and so glad that I did!   Not only that, but my insurance company wouldn't pay for the orthotics but would pay for the surgery, so really it was a no brainer

  2. I know they have some pretty stylish shoes that are good for your feet. These shoes from the brand Soffe support your feet very well; they're kind of pricy but they do support well. I was having some feet problems and flipflops are bad for your feet, I was stuck wearing tennis shoes for weeks... ugh. You could try that brand of shoe; they have some at Macy's I know.
