Titans’ Mike Munchak prefers Matt Hasselbeck for Buccaneers game despite Locker's performance – NFL News
Tennessee Titans Coach Mike Munchak has dismissed calls for Rookie quarterback Jake Locker to become the primary quarterback for his team and has gone on record to state that a healthy Matt Hesselbeck will remain Titans first choice
this season.
"If Matt is fine, he's the quarterback," Munchak said. "There's no doubt about that."
Hasselbeck, who went off the field after an ineffective performance against the Atlanta Falcons with an elbow injury to his throwing arm, is doubtful for the Titan’s game week 12 match against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback
finished the game completing just 13 passes of 25 attempts and covered just 124 yards while also throwing an interception. He left the field with the Titans trailing the Falcons 23-3.
Hasselbeck got the injury as he was hit by a Falcons defender on the follow through and watched the rest of the game from the sidelines with an icepack on his arm.
The Titans however looked galvanized by the presence of rookie quarterback Jake Locker who immediately took control of the game and his actions almost resulted in the Titans making an amazing comeback into the game.
The Titans scored just a few minutes of Locker’s arrival on the field as the rookie sent a 40 yard missile toward Nate Washington who scored the Titans first touchdown of the night at the end of the third quarter to make it 23-10.
Locker started the fourth quarter where he left off sending another pass toward Washington with four minutes of regular time left to bring the Titans just six points behind the Falcons with the game ending 23-17.
Locker’s performance was praised by teammates. tight end Jared Cook said of the rookie’s impact
“Jake came in and made some things happen,” said Cook, “He got the ball downfield. He did a good job. He was Jake Locker — the same old Jake that’s been here ever since training camp. He wasn’t nervous.”
Locker himself was ecstatic with his little Cameo as he finished the game with 9 completed passes of 19 attempts and covering 140 yards with two passing touchdowns saying
"It was a lot of fun," said Locker. "I would have liked a better outcome, but it was fun to be out there competing."
