Titans survive Freeman’s charge to beat Buccaneers – NFL Recap Week 12
The Tennessee Titans have kept their playoff hopes alive by beating Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-17 on past Sunday.
On a rainy day that caused many turnovers in the game, the Titans survived a late charge by Buccaneers Josh Freeman to ensure a must win. The rain had caused total nine turnovers in the game, and the critical battle had been won
by the Titans by 5-4. They had forced five turnovers. In addition, they also overcame four turnovers of their own.
After the win, the Titans are 6-5 in American Football Conference's (AFC) south division.
Chris Johnson’s performance finally helped Titans to overpower Buccaneers. Chris Johnson had run 2000 yards so far. However, he lost his form since re-signing of a deal with the Titans this season. On Sunday however he ran for
his best and a season-highest 190 yards to boost Titans’ win chances.
"It felt good to finally get out there and get some open space," said Johnson. "It's just one game. We've got five more games to go, so it's a situation where I just want to be consistent, to finish out this year going up."
Added to his efforts were two touchdown passes from Matt Hasselbeck on fourth and second with three minutes to end of the game.
However, courtesy of an impressive showdown from Buccaneers' Freeman the win did not come easy for the Titans after all. Freeman threw 199 yards, more than what Chris Johnson did for the Titans. He also threw a touchdown. He however
was intercepted once and lost a fumble that helped the Titans to survive the Freeman's charge.
The Buccaneers entered the break tied at 10. They also scored first in the second half of the game when Aqib Talib had an interception off Matt Hasselbeck, returning it for 27 yards for a touchdown.
However, the Buccaneers were not able to score again after that, while their rivals the Titans scored 13 consecutive points to take the game away from them. The lead was sustained by the Titans till the end of the game.
This was fifth consecutive loss for the Buccaneers of current season of American football's premier league, National Football League (NFL).
