Titiya Plucksataporn grabs early lead in Finnair Masters on Ladies European Tour
The Ladies European Tour (LET) has returned after a pause of ten days with its latest episode of Finnair Masters at the Helsinki Golf Club in Finland and the first round of the event is currently underway. First group that tee-ed off in the morning included
Caroline Hedwall of Sweden, South African Lee-Anne Pace, Spaniard Carlota Ciganda, and Becky Brewerton of Wales.
Hedwall has already completed her first round with a two-under, 69. The Allianz Ladies Slovak Open winner carded five birdies but dropped three shots to lose her grasp on the lead. Englishwoman Rebecca Hudson has also completed her first 18 holes with a
score of three-under, 68. Caroline Masson and Louise Larson also finished for 69 in their opening bids.
Titiya Plucksataporn, the young Thai golfer, came out to grab an early lead in the first round with her stunning performance. She carded five birdies and rounded them up with a glorious eagle at par-five, 14th to finish with five-under, although
she has yet to tee-off for the final hole. She dropped only two shots in her attempt.
South African Pace and Norwegian Marianne Skarpnord closed their respective rounds for one-under, 71 each. Pace is looking for her sixth title on the LET and is one of the most formidable contenders in the tournament. Virginie Lagoutte-Clement from France
closed her opening bid with an even-par, 71 alongside LET Seasoned player Trish Johnson.
Brewerton had to settle for a disappointing first round score of three-over, 74 alongside Australian Karen Lunn. Brewerton dropped five shots and carded just two birdies to fall well down the leaderboard and will have to perform her best to climb up in the
proceeding rounds.
LET Money leader and winner of the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open, Christel Boeljon has completed her six holes for the moment and has carded one birdie to be one-under. The Dutchwoman currently boosts off a splendid form and is likely to challenge Plucksataporn
for the lead.
Finnair Masters is sponsored by the Finnair, the national airline of Finland and has prize money of €30,000. The Top 3 players from the tournament will be eligible to be part of the field at the 2011 Ricoh Women’s British Open at Carnoustie Links.
Not only that, the winner will be able to participate at the Evian Masters presented by Societe Generale in France next month, having the biggest prize money on the tour.
