Title question?

i bought a 1970s vehicle in georgia with bill of sale only but live in tennessee. tn requires title but ga doesnt require a title

can i register it in tn with bill of sale or would i have to find the title for it?

Seems to me that if the state you purchased the vehicle in doesn't require a title for the transaction to be legal, Then the state that you register the vehicle in knows of this and would process the transaction accordingly. Checking the Tennessee DMV web site would give you the guidlines needed to complete your question and get you diving your new car and by the way have fun!


  2. If Tennessee requires a title, I would think you would need one.  Can you file for a lost title in Tenn?

If i understand you right the title is a open title.Meaning that it is still in the other persons name.If it is your going to half to have it transfer over into your name , before they will do anything else with it . If you can't get a holded to the other person ,then you will need to go and get a title tranfer paper and the title and sign his/or /her name all the two of them in order to have it transfered over into your name. good luck to you.
