Question:

Titleist NXT Extreme or DT Solo; Which are Better?

I am debating buying either used Titleist NXT Extreme or DT Solo balls. Which ones are better? What is the difference?

I am a beginner (high 90s, low 100s) and I slice and shank often. When I do hit it well, I can hit excellent shots (300 yard drives, nice lobs etc.). I feel that these balls help my game in terms of contact and spin.

Any help would be appreciated. I just need to also stop slicing and hitting fat.

  1. Titleist extreme was the longest ball off the tee in 2008. But Titleist pro v1 was the best all around ball. Tthe extreme is softer and hence does not spin well on the greens. I tried both the solo and extreme and I prefer the extreme for long drives. The solo also does not do so well on greens either. I play the pro v 1 for all around performance. My handicap is 11.

  2. Not sure what type of course you play but IMO, if you shank and slice alot, that means you are going to lose a lot of balls.  I would go with the cheapest you can find.  Precept has 2 dozen Laddies for $20.  A pretty good 2 piece ball at a great price.

"Any help would be appreciated. I just need to also stop slicing and hitting fat" - your swing path needs a fix.  I suggest you take lessons and practice.   It will be the best money you will ever spend.

  3. Titleist web site may have a ball selector suggestion page.  If you want a better Titleist ball for about the same money, get the NXT Tour.

If your only choices are the Extreme or DT SoLo, then I would suggest the Extreme because it is a newer design by a year or two.

  4. I like the DT Solo's, there a nice ball, they have a soft approach to the green, i use Calloway Tour i though, those things are freakin awsome, but i would go with the DT's over the NXT
