Tito Ortiz: I will not compete anymore because I want to be a natural athlete – UFC News
After Alistair Overeem’s tests revealed he had elevated testosterone levels, many UFC fighters think performance-enhancing drugs should be banned. Among all, Tito Ortiz is probably the one who has taken it to heart real deeply. In his recent media interaction,
The People’s Champion came up saying that he is a natural athlete and he has never taken any such drugs. He sounded disheartened over the fact that many UFC fighters are being blamed for using such drugs, which according to him, is unfair to ‘natural athletes’
like him.
His exact statement read, “You know I don't know much about it at all. I have been fighting for 15 years and there have been trainers that tried to push that on me and I've said that if I have to do that kind of stuff, I am done with the sport, I won't compete
anymore because I want to be a natural athlete. And I have - for fifteen years I've competed and taken my drug tests, random drug tests, and passed everything because I am a true athlete. A lot of these guys are taking these supplements to make themselves
more impressive or whatever, to become the fighters they want to be.”
He added that those who want to take such drugs it is their choice but his recommendation would be not to go for it since it is against the law and against the spirit of the sport. He then said that if a fighter wants to take such drugs and compete then
it is better if he does not fight at all.
According to Ortiz, he has never taken any such performance-enhancing drug throughout his 15-year career even though at times doctors permit fighters to take testosterone replacement therapy.
It is true that after Overeem’s controversy sprung up, most UFC fighters are of the view that TRT should be permanently banned. However, no one knew that Ortiz would take up the whole issue to such a height. Ortiz has been a tough fighter throughout his
career and he has never been a part of such controversies. Therefore, he wishes to stay clean and wants to walk out.
