Question:

Tito Ortiz said something like Jiu-Jitsu goes out the window when you throw punches to the face, do you agree?

To a certain extent he has a point at least for a fighter like Tito. I don't think he has ever been submitted. When he gets in the guard people pay the price.

How would Tito do if he was placed in the guard of Marcelo Garcia or Jacare and allowed to punch? would he bang them out?

  1. depends on how good you r. if you jus have a month under your belt it might go out. but if your gracie good i dont think think it'll ever go out the window

  2. No he would be submitted thats what the great BJJ guys rely on that you will punch then they wait for u to make a mistake grab an arm and break it.  Thats why Tito doesnt win anymore

  3. to answer this you just need to watch the mir vs. lesnar fight. mir took a whooping for 1&1/2 minutes and still was able to submit him as soon as he made the smallest mistake. so no.

  4. yes and no

being good at jiu-jitsu means positioning yourself and your opponent so you cant take damage

    that being said

anyone can got for an arm lock and catch punches to the face and get knocked out

    but like what was said

    look at Mir and Lesnar

Lesnar was pounding him, and then bam Mir got the ankle and submitted Lesnar

  5. tito sucks

  6. if the Jiu-Jitsu fighter is any good you wont be able to punch..its only TV..guy its fake like Cops..

  7. Every thing goes out the window if most mma fights land 2 punches in the face they hit hard thats there job

  8. Tito is full of $hit, there is a difference between jiu jitsu and jiu jitsu while someone is punching you in the face, but it doesn't go out the window, look at fighters like Nate Diaz and Frank Mir for instance, they were both getting POUNDED before they pulled submissions out.

  9. It's back and forth. For every example (and everyone seems to be using the Mir fight) of someone getting a sub while being pounded, I can counter with someone that's real good at BJJ getting pounded in guard. Some people can set subs up while being hit, and some can't. Some people can sit in guard all day long and pound out their opponent and defend the sub attempts,  some can't.

  10. Punching isn't allowed in sport jiu-jitsu.  We all saw what happened to Royce Gracie when Matt Hughes started cracking him with punches.  The statement was probably true to whoever he said it to, but there are some good MMA fighters who can take a punch and still keep working for a submission.

  11. This is a standard comment by mma guys that are not grounded in jj/bjj. Matt Hughes made a similar comment on television, but guys in the gym say that all the time.

I'd say it is accurate to say that a punch "can" make jj go out the window. It depends on the skill and heart of either person. That said, unless a jj fighter is at a very high level, the comment is more accurate than not all other things being equal. I'm sure Frank the f*g aka Tank would have a comment about this topic with his grab *** wrestling background.

  12. Tito is right and wrong. tito was submitted once. I believe mezger or frank shamrock got him in a guiotine. but the reason tito is wrong is because he uses good ju jitsu. He has submitted people in the adcc. that is hard to do. since he knows submissions he able to avoid them. also look what Mir just did to Lesnor, subbed him after many punches and elbows. I do think tito would beat those guys though. but I think they can catch him too

  13. I think this is Tito's way of saying what other fighters have said for years:

"Everyone has a plan until they get hit."

Enough force delivered to the brain or the chin can cause anyone to drop. Your level of expertise in a certain skill means little at that point.

  14. Not at all.  But it does go out the window when you allow biting, eye poking, gouging, fish hooking, throat strikes, multiple attackers, etc.
