Question:

Tito Ortiz vs Lyota Machida?

Many people have been saying that Machida is a boring fighter to watch, but he is one of my favorites.

People were saying he was running from Tito and that's why he won the decision. I didnt see it that way.

I re-watched the fight last night and I cannot understand why people think he's boring.

He totally slammed Ortiz in the first and almost KO'd him with a knee to the liver in the 3rd round.

Tito couldnt touch him and was frustrated because Machida was making a fool of him and his attacks.

Do you guys expect him to stand there and let guys hit him? He is just too quick to hit and is very accurate.

I would like to see him KO some guys, but even with decision wins, I think he is very exciting.

Anyone watch again and change their mind?

Why do you think he is boring?

James

  1. machida's good. don't let other people fool you, they're dumbasses.

  2. I myself like Machida, however, MOST people who watch UFC aren't fighters themselves. They just see him retreating all the time, I see that he picks his shots. I think that it goes with name recognition, Machida and Griffin fight very similar (strike and get out), however people love the h**l out of Griffin and boo Machida. Tito is a very popular fighter, and when he went ranting and raging and said that he just kept running from him people took his side. Tito was just frustrated and cried like a baby.

  3. Okay my friend you are asking this question in the wrong place. Most people here know what martial arts is , and know what a good martial artist looks like. Ask this question next time you are at a bar , or at a ufc event. Your average fight fan , who wants to see two guys just swing at each other  until one guy gets knocked out , cant see what technique and originality Lyoto brings to the game. They just want to see a slug fest , but a true fan of mixed martial arts can appreciate Lyotos game , I mean how can you be so boring if you have knocked out Rich Franklin. This guy obviously knows what he is doing , and knows how to get the job done , it does not matter to me that his style is allusive as long as it gets the job done ,  and thats the whole point of mma right? Use whatever works to win the fight.

  4. Here's my take on it (C&P'd from an earlier thread)

"I think that he's exciting, if you can appreciate technical standup. The fact that a lot of people criticise him for "running away" is similar to how uneducated fans think that clinching is "just hugging each other." Subtleties are lost on the uninitiated.

For instance, critics claim that Machida is constantly 'backpedalling." That's a load of c**p, in my opinion. What he is doing is keeping distance.

The standard for striking is kind of low in MMA. There are some good strikers, yes, but the average fighter seems to just wade into the pocket and swing. Lyoto, on the other hand, is always conscious of the distance between himself and his opponent. He's diligent about maintaining it; that's why he rarely gets hit.

When Lyoto decides to attack, he closes the gap, does his thing, then gets out. He throws very short combinations (kick, punch), then gets back out of range. It leaves his opponents with almost no time to retaliate. This strategy doesn't do much damage, but it keeps Lyoto from getting hit.

Though I can see how some people could get bored with this (as they expect to see more fireworks), I'm always entertained by displays of good technique. And in that regard, Machida always puts on a good show."

As for the guy, who says that Tito Ortiz has no skills, you're no more educated than the guys booing Machida. Tito revolutionized ground and pound in the cage and clearly has some wrestling talent. He isn't half bad at BJJ either, as he nearly subbed Machida, who has a SOLID ground game himself.

  5. Wow the poster George W Bush is just as stupid as the real W if he thinks Tito should have won...Machida to alot of ppl is boreing...Only because he doesnt get hurt...He getts in there when he seens an opening...He is a counter fighter so you would expect him to always be moveing...Also I've noticed that when he is in there with a guy who is agessive and comes at him al'a Soko he seems to be more agressive himself...Tito was the one who should have pushed tha pace of that fight and he didnt...I was watching the fight thinking "Lets go Tito, this is your last fight in the UFC. Do something push the actin go after him" Anyways I find Machida to be very entertaining and also he is currently the co main event on the UK card vs Thiago Silva at UFC 89

  6. Tito should of won. He got the triangle at the end. Tito was dominating the ground game. He was more agressive. Machida kept running away. Machida is boring. Tito should have won 30-24. cause Machida kept doing the Kalib Starnes.

  7. I agree.

Lyoto Machida out-powered Tito in clinching and proved to be a better technical striker than him too. Lyoto kept moving around but attacked very aggressively when Tito came in and Tito ended up not being able to aggressively, and stopped moving whenever Lyoto stopped moving and Tito barely tried to go for it.

Lyoto so far has a perfect record and won against some of the top fighters like BJ Penn, Forest Griffin, etc. It's pretty much Lyoto's opponent's fault for not being able to deal with his style. Boring or not, he still won all his fights and all his opponents couldn't really do anything about it.

  8. im a fan of lyoto myself and as a fighter i put him in a similar category as tim sylvia for the simple fact that they are both fighters who make you fight the type of fight that they want and they both frustrate you. tim isnt as elusive as lyoto but its alot of the reason people would doubt his ability also he doesnt speak english and goes in there to win not to be a showman. im sure if he talked mess about the other fighter and started screaming like a lunatic after he won his fights people would like him more but i dont feel like thats what he's lookin for. he just wants to go out there and be the best

  9. I dont have to change my mind to understand his strategy and I concur with you.  IMO he was winning why tie it up when your ahead and winning?

Number one rule in competition, when your ahead, stay ahead..=]  So his strategy was sound to me.

  10. I'm new to watching the sport. While it didn't make a very interesting fight, I agree with you that Machida was elusive.

I thought Tito might have scored some points at the end, but it wasn't enough to win the decision.

  11. I didn't change my mind. Machida is an outstanding fighter, and I never found any of his fights boring. Was it boring when he knocked Franklin dead? Was it boring when he systematically destroyed Soku? Those are just a few things I like to ask to the complete imbeciles who proclaim that Lyoto is "boring". I'd like to see them get in the ring/cage if they think they can do better. Get in there with the likes that he has beaten over his career.

  12. Machida is not boring. Tito Otiz is boring. Tito is freaking slow. Did you see when Tito completely miss Machida on a takedown attempt? That's how slow Tito is. Slow people are boring. Tito is just dumb as h**l. Dumb people use their muscle rather than their skills. So Tito is so mad that he can't use his muscle. hahahahahaha. Freakin' unskilled fighters. Can't wait when the time comes when these unskilled fighters will be extinct in the UFC.
