Tito Ortiz wants to stand against the usage of TRT – UFC News
Hall of Famer UFC fighter Tito Ortiz wants to stand against the usage of TRT in the sport. Ortiz, who joined the Hall of Fame at UFC 148 after suffering a decision loss to Forrest Griffin, believes the increasing use of performance enhancing drugs is damaging
the sport.
“(TRT Usage) that has to be nipped in the bud right off the bat and not let people like Forrest get away with things like this,” said Ortiz in his recent interview.
“Since Day 1 that I've been competing over the last 15 years, I've always been on an even field,” he added.
“Why, all of the sudden, can other fighters be on a higher field – six times the amount of an average person?”
“I think we're sending the wrong message out to fans and kids who want to be UFC fighters and mixed martial arts fighters because if they're not able to be on an even field.”
He further said that fighters these days have the options of using drugs which are undetectable to a certain extent, since tests are not regularly conducted.
According to Ortiz, it is not just damaging the sport but it damages the physical being of a fighter as well. He added that a fighter who uses such drugs to push himself to the limits inside the cage would have devastating effects on his brain.
Ortiz has been in the Ultimate Fighting Championship for 15 years. He is currently 37 years old and claims that he has never used any such drugs to enhance his performance. According to Ortiz, he has gone through some major surgeries in his career.
He added that if he had used performance enhancing drugs, he would still be in the sport.
It should be noted here that the usage of performance enhancing drugs in the sport is currently on the rise. Boxing, MMA and Wrestling are three sports, which are being mainly affected by this situation. Fighters like Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz have previously
spoken against the entire scenario as well, urging authorities to introduce more regular tests for fighters before and after their fights.
