The Barcelona boss refuses to admit that his side have already won the Liga, and is well aware of the fact that things can change very quickly in football.
The latest round of La Liga fixtures saw results stringing in the Catalan’s favour as current champions Real Madrid dropped a further 3 points on the road after their unexpected defeat to Real Betis.
No one saw this sort of result coming against the capital side as they had done well of late to keep their, somewhat feeble, title hopes alive.
Los Meringues loss, coupled with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s 4-0 victory over Levante last night, has opened up an eleven-point gap over title holders, Real Madrid. However, despite having a comfortable advantage, the Barcelona mentor believes that the Liga title race is
still not over yet.
"There’s still a lot to play for, 75 points is a lot. Also, remember that in the first year that we were 11 points clear of Real Madrid and had to go to the Bernabeu and win.”
Vilanova also confessed and stated that the threat posed by currently second placed Atletico Madrid cannot be over looked and expected the Rojiblancos to be challenging for the top spot, come the end of the season.
"The league is not finished. Firstly because we've only played third of it, and then because Atletico are behind us and are very strong.”
Atletico Madrid have done extremely well this season and have managed to put up one of the strongest starts to the season in their history, as they find themselves just 3 points adrift of currently top placed Barcelona side.
Atletico moved on level points with the Blaugranas as they defeated a strong Sevilla side 4-0 earlier on Sunday at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 Calderon.
Barcelona had to respond in order to maintain their 3-point advantage, and the Catalans replied emphatically with Andres Iniesta showing his class in Barcelona’s 4-0 win at Levante.
"We scored very quickly in the second half and that defined the match. The first half was what we expected, because they are a team that works very well [together] and they break quickly,” told Vilanova.
Vilanova stated that he was happy at how his team was performing and insisted that he only wanted to focus on his own team, amid the unexpected advantage that has opened up over Real Madrid.
