The Barcelona shot-stopper made a howler against Madrid which cost his side a goal, but Tito Vilanova still has confidence in his first-choice goalkeeper.
Barcelona recently faced their arch rivals, Real Madrid, in the Supercopa de Espana first leg, which took place at the Nou Camp.
The Catalan giants weren’t the favourites to win the game, but they still managed to impress throughout their home fixture, as they dominated possession throughout the fixture.
Even though Barcelona weren’t the first ones to score the goal, they eventually managed to win the game 3-2.
However, the score could easily be 3-1, had Valdes not made a goalkeeping howler towards the end of the game.
The first half of the fixture ended in a goalless draw, but the second half saw http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 thumping in a header to score the first goal for Madrid.
However, La Blaugrana only took a minute to equalize as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pedro-c29582 Rodriguez found the back of the net.
Soon, Iniesta won a penalty which Messi was able to convert to make the score-line 2-1.
A few minutes later, the Spanish midfielder, Iniesta, again managed to give an assist as he passed the ball to Xavi Hernandez, who found the back of the net with a simple finish.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 winning 3-1, it seemed as if the Catalan giants would find it easy when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu on the 29th of August.
However, a goalkeeping blunder by Valdes allowed Angel Di Maria to score a second for Real Madrid.
Now Madrid have the advantage of two away goals, but despite the blunder, Tito Vilanova has showed faith in his first-choice goalkeeper.
While speaking about his mistake, Tito Vilanova stated:
"I'm surprised that at this point in his career anybody could question him. The Club has 4 Champions League and he has been decisive in 3 of them.”
"He is the best keeper in the world and the best keeper for Barca by a mile."
Barcelona will be taking on Osasuna during their second La Liga fixture on Sunday. The Catalan giants won their first league fixture 5-1 against Real Sociedad.
