The Spaniard has voiced his opinion regarding his side’s upcoming European group stage encounter against the Russians and has insisted that his side cannot afford to be complacent.
Barcelona head coach, Tito Vilanova, has expressed that his side’s next opponents in the UEFA Champions League, Spartak Moscow, could pose a serious threat towards them. He refused to downplay the other team as weak opponents and declared that anything is
possible.
According to the trainer, there are no easy games in the European tournament and that anything can be expected. He suggested that he is mentally prepared for any result that may come his team’s way on Tuesday.
The Spanis giants will travel to the Russian capital in midweek in order to lock horns with Unai Emery’s men in the group stages of the prestigious tournament. Although the Catalans have been tipped as heavy favourites to come away with a victory, their
manager has refused to sound too confident ahead of the encounter.
Interestingly, Barca had to suffer a defeat in their latest Champions League fixture as they were humbled to a 2-1 loss against Celtic. The match that took place at Glasgow saw La Azulgrana beaten away from home.
Consequently, Vilanova has refused to downplay Spartak and has emphasized that Barca will approach the fixture with caution.
“Russian teams have made it difficult for us in the past," he told reporters at a press conference.
“These days you can’t beat anyone easily in the Champions League. There are no easy games. We have a lot of respect for Spartak and I believe that it will be a hard game just like the one at the Camp Nou. We know Unai Emery well and he has always caused
us difficulties. He is a coach who always has a very organised defence and attack."
"We will have to play well. I, of course, expect maximum commitment from all the players. Maybe if we had beaten Celtic we would have left some players at home, but this is a very important match. We need to play well and win to finish top of the group."
