The Spanish international claimed that Pep Guardiola’s right hand man is the best amongst the lot to replace the outgoing manager.
The month of July will oversee a managerial change at the Camp Nou as Tito Vilanova takes the reins of Barcelona from Pep Guardiola.
Forty-one-year-old Guardiola decided last Friday that his time was up at the bench and after a serious discussion with Sandro Rosell and Andoni Zubizarreta, it was announced that Vilanova will take his position in the dugout.

Puyol claimed that Vilanova’s addition on the bench of Barcelona is the step in the right direction and believes his appointment will allow La Blaugrana to continue from where Guardiola will leave.
He explained that the Girona-born tactician is well voiced with the traditions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, and after working with Pep Guardiola for five years is the ideal candidate to lead the club.
"The fact that Tito will be the new coach is the best news we could get," Puyol noted. "This is the continuation of a project.”
"Tito knows the team better than anyone and the club's philosophy. He has worked with Pep for five years.”
"He is the ideal person to carry on the project. It will be more or less the same."
Puyol’s statements echo the sentiments shown by Guardiola himself, who voiced his feelings after Barcelona’s 0-7 win against Rayo Vallecano.
The former Spanish international opined that La Blaugrana will be able to continue in the mould he has set up during his reign.
He also went on to thank Les Cules for understanding his decision.
"This team is young, Tito knows the players well and I'm confident that Barcelona will continue to be competitive [under him]," he told the press.
"I'm grateful for all the praise in response to my departure, although I didn't pass away. I'll still be around."
Guardiola has set very high standards for his successor after winning 13 titles in the 16 competitions he led Barcelona on the pitch.
