Help me please.... Need to find a, b, the relative formula masss and x:

An ammonium iron alum has the formula

(NH4)a Fe(SO4)b . x H2O.

A 1.0 g sample of salt was dissolved in 100cm3 of water and divided into 2 portions

To 1 portion was added excess NaOH and then boiled. The NH3 eveolved exactly neutralized 10.4mL of 0.1M HCl.

To other portion, eexcess zinc was added to reduce Fe3+ to Fe2+. The mixture was filtered and the filterate required 20.8mL of 0.01M KMnO4 to oxidise the Fe2+ back to Fe3+/

Please help me... and I appreciate your full workings

... I will reward as best as I could...

many thanks

from

Singapore

Cheers!
