What is the difference between the equivalence point and the end point?

  1. The two terms are often interchanged, but that's not technically correct use:

    The equivalence point is when the titration reaction is complete - for instance, all the acid has been neutralized by the added base.  The equivalence point usually cannot be measured directly in a volumetric titration.

    The endpoint is the point at which the indicator changes color to indicate the "end" of the titration.  This usually happens due to the indicator reacting with the titrant.  (Naturally enough, the end point is usually a little past the equivalence point.)
