Tivo Questions! Emergency!?

OK, if i get a Tivo used (a friend is giving it to me)

1. How do i subscribe under my name?

2. will it work with direct TV?

3. do i need a phoneline in that room?

any details you can include in your answers will be HUGE help! Thanks!!!

  1. You just have to call them, they have a 800 number.  Tell them that you got it from a friend.  Yes it will work with direct TV.  If you have direct TV you probably won't need a phoneline.  Tivo is great, I've had it for several years and I wouldn't watch TV again without it.


  2. if it is a tivo brand tivo, than:

    call 1-800-531-5000 (directv) and then setup an acct if you dont have one, or explain that you will be adding a reciever to your existing acct. which you will need the make, model, & serial number

    if it is tivo brand, you will have to have a phone line, however there are multiple solutions to that:

    a phone jack splitter and a wireless phone jack, running a temporary wire is only a temporary fix because the reciever dials out frequently

    and if you want it work properly, you will definately need it professionally installed

  3. first of all they will tell you how to subscribe

    second of all yes cause it is direct tv

    and third of all no you dont need a phone line in that room but has to be somewhere in your home.
