I currently have basic cable with no set top box. The signal comes straight from the wall to my tv. I was wondering, Is there a standalone box that is like tivo and records shows without a monthly fee?

Thanks.

  1. Hi RICHYRICH8552,

Yes, I looked one at Walmart today. It was a DVR that you program just like you did the old VHS recorders.

I can't remember much about it. It may have been a Phillips. I know it had a 160Gb drive.

Here is an example of a fee free DVR - http://www.amazon.com/Philips-DVDR3575H-...

  2. You should be able to find a dvr.  Just like the dvd recorders and vcr recorders.  It'll do the same thing.  You'll just control the channels with it unless you split the signal and run the split to the tv.  That's when you can record w/ dvr and watch the tv using the tv remote on a different video input.
