Tiwary should get more opportunities – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dilip-Balwant-Vengsarkar-c54093 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890, more opportunities in future.
"Rohit has failed for too long. I think Manoj Tiwary should have got the nod straightaway when Rohit was struggling," said Vengsarkar while speaking to media reporters on the sidelines of a promotional event, in New http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 last night.
It has never been a smooth ride for the 26-year-old Bengal batsman since making his international debut in 2008, as he has always been called up only when required as back-up, and has so far played only eight ODIs and two T20 Internationals for the national
team.
It looked like things would change for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and later in the Asia Cup as
well.
It remained the same story for Tiwary when Dhoni and men started their recently concluded limited-overs tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last month, as he was overlooked for the opening two games of the five-ODI series.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309’s continuous struggle in middle forced the selectors to bring in Tiwary, to strengthen the middle order. The Bengal batsman grabbed the opportunity with both hands, as he not only impressed with the bat, but his part-time leg-spin also
helped the Men in Blue big time against the Islanders. He backed his figures of 4 for 61 in the fourth ODI at Colombo (RPS) with a calculated 65 in the final one-dayer at Pallekele, as India clinched the series 4-1.
"Tiwary has done extremely well and I think he should get more opportunities," insisted Vengsarkar.
The former cricketer has also backed under fire middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma for his capabilities. However, he has put onus on Sharma to cement his place in the national team, by transforming his potential into runs.
"There is no doubt Rohit has tremendous potential...He is a fine player and there is no question about his abilities,” said the former BCCI chief selector. “[But] he has to transform his potential into performance,” he urged.
