Tiz Flirtatious completed her hat-trick of wins in her stakes debut, the Cat’s Cradle Handicap
Martin F. Jones trained 3-year-old filly, Tiz Flirtatious, kept her unbeaten record intact when she participated in her stakes debut called the $85,800 Cat’s Cradle Handicap, and easily won it to go 3 up in as many starts.
The filly broke her maiden as a 3-year-old recently on 2 October, 2011, at Santa Anita Park under Rafael Bejarano at about six furlongs. She maintained a solid pace throughout the race and took the six furlong dash by defeating Teacher Teacher and Sassy Suances, who finished second and third, respectively, as Tiz Flirtatious covered the distance in 1 minute and 9.78 seconds.
Martin Jones kept Tiz Flirtatious over at Santa Anita Park’s dirt course, as she spurred up another surprise to win an allowance test over at six and a half furlongs under Joel Rosario on 29 October, 2011.
La Sombre was left behind in second as Miss Sea Cup was overhauled easily to finish third, as Tiz Flirtatious powered down the stretch to cover the six and a half furlong sprint in 1 minute and 15.28 seconds.
In the Cat’s Cradle Handicap, Tiz Flirtatious was competing against 8 other fillies over at seven and a half furlongs. Right from the outset California Nectar and Salty Sarah were part of a brisk pace as they set fractions of 22.42 seconds for the quarter mile and 45.43 seconds for the half mile marker.
Chokecherymary after Tiz Flirtatious was the most impressive filly, who showed how fast she can cover distance when she found another wing from eighth place to power down like a locomotive in the stretch to finish second.
She did trouble Tiz Flirtatious, who was settled at fourth and made a run for it under jockey Joel Rosario, but things got interesting after the half mile marker. Tiz Flirtatious kept it real till the end as she kept the eventual runner up, Chokecherymary, at bay to win the race by one and a half lengths.
“She had a good trip, but she makes her own luck,” trainer Marty Jones said. “She knows what she wants to do.”
The daughter of Tizbud, out of mare Masquerade Bella by Victory Gallop, Tiz Flirtatious covered the seven and a half furlong distance in 1 minute and 29.33 seconds.
