Tiz Miz Sue charged down the stretch to nab the Azeri Stakes
The 5-year-old Steve Hobby trained mare, Tiz Miz Sue, had to do something in the Oaklawn Part meet, where she finished as a runner-up in her last two races to tormentor, Absinthe Minded, but she finally broke through and posted an 8 to 1 upset in the Grade
3, $147,000 Azeri Stakes, which reeled in a small but competitive field.
The 9 to 10 choice in the Grade 3 Azeri Stakes, Absinthe Minded, was running for her hat-trick in the Azeri Stakes. The rampant runner downed the Pippin Stakes over at 1 1/16 miles on 21 January, 2012, at Oaklawn Park, where she defeated Tiz Miz Sue in second,
as she did it again in her next start, the Bayakoa Stakes over the same distance with the same top 3 finishers, with She’s All in finishing third on the day just like the way she did in the Pippin Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
Both Pippin and Bayakoa Stakes second and third, Tiz Miz Sue and She’s All in improved in their rankings, as She’s All in snatched the second place finish from the second choice, Joyful Victory by a mere length, while the high flying Absinthe Minded crumbled
to finish fourth, as Ravi’s Song completed the order of finish and finished fifth.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Tiznow, out of mare Sue’s Good News by Woodman, Tiz Miz Sue settled in fourth after the break, looking to save some ground, as She’s All In and Absinthe Minded battled for the lead.
Under jockey Joseph Rocco, Tiz Miz Sue patiently in the backstretch, made her move when she angled four wide swinging off the far turn, and kicked on with a bolstering charge toward the wire leaving the furlong marker.
On a fast track, Tiz Miz Sue covered the distance in 1 minute and 43.58 seconds, and handed Steve Hobby the victory, who saw it coming.
“It was overdue for that girl," Hobby said of the winner. "I was confident the whole trip. I liked that she tucked in behind horses. They hooked up in front, they weren’t going crazy, but they were nodding back and forth and taking turns and that had me
liking it the whole way. “

"Joe was able to wait and wait. He is great with her, just so patient. He knows her real well."
