Tizway and Flat Out to duel it out once again in the Jockey Cup Gold Cup at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011
The Grade 1 Whitney Handicap Invitational winner and runner-up, Tizway and Flat Out, are all set to go at each other once again in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup on 1 October, 2011, at Belmont Park.
After the stunning performance in the Whitney Handicap, trainer James Bond immediately pointed that the Jockey Club Gold Cup is the next race for the six-year-old son of Tiznow.
The William Clifton Jr. owned horse is coming off a back to back win in two races, and his inclusion in the third one means that they want extend his hot streak.
However, Tizway won his first stakes race at the distance of 1 1/8 miles which was the Whitney Handicap, and his previous Grade 1 win came in the Met Mile, run over at distance of 1 mile at Belmont Park.
Veteran trainer James Bond has won the Whitney Handicap once before way back in 1997 with Will’s Way, and he believes that his six-year-old has plenty for racing left in him and he will certainly go the distance at 1 1/8 miles yet again.
Though there have been people who have doubted Tizway’s ability to run the distance, he has proved them wrong, especially when at the eighth pole, it looked as if Flat Out was going to catch him and spoil a spirited run, but he gathered up energy from somewhere
and kicked in again.
Meanwhile, the Preston Stables owned 5-year-old Flat Out, who came in second to Tizway in the Whitney Handicap is looking eager for a rematch with Tizway.
Trainer Charles Dickey was already looking ahead for another showdown between his Whitney rival, and the sparks will fly yet again, this time in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.
Charles Dickey, who was to take Flat Out back to his Monmouth Stables, said that there is nothing set in stone and the son of Flatter could start either in the Grade 3 Iselin Handicap on 20 August, 2011 at Monmouth Park or he might run in the big one, the
Grade 1 Woodward Stakes held at Saratoga on 3 September, 2011.
He further added that the Jockey Club Gold Cup is going to be his last race before they go into the all important Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic held at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
Tizway has become the first horse to bag the Whitney and the Met Mile double in the same year after since In Excess in the year 1991.
Tizway, who has been unlucky with injuries, now looks sound and that could be his secret behind all the rapid success that he has been getting wherever he goes.
