Tizway turned in his second work out session of five furlongs at Saratoga ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Classic
Trained by James Bond for owner William L. Clifton Jr. 6-year-old horse, Tizway is well and looking to make an appearance in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
Tizway came down with a fever nine days before the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup which made James Bond to scratch Tizway out of the potential prep race for the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
However, the son of Tiznow, out of Bethany by Dayjur, Tizway has regained health and turned in a workout of six furlongs over a muddy and sealed Oklahoma training track at Saratoga.
Under exercise jockey Andreas Catalano, Tizway covered the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 14.33 seconds. The muddy track played its part in the slow proceedings for Tizway, as he put blinkers back on and broke from the five furlong pole under his exercise
jockey.
Tizway’s work was broken down into fractions, as he cover the opening quarter mile in 25.40 seconds, and the three furlongs distance in 37.60 seconds and finally reaching the five furlong mark in 1 minute and 1.60 seconds.
On 27 September, 2011, Tizway was back in the work tab for the first time after coming down with a fever, and without blinkers Tizway went five furlongs in 1 minute and 1.44 seconds.
Tizway this season made four starts, rolling in third in both of his opening races. His opening race was the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Handicap at about a mile, and Grade 3 Charles Town Classic at 1 1/8 miles.
Tizway got back to winning ways in his third start at Belmont Park, where he won the Grade 1 Met Mile at a mile, and then headed off to Saratoga to win the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Coming off wins in two grade 1 races, Tizway was headlining the Jockey Club Gold Cup but was unfortunate to come down with fever at the wrong time.
Tizway’s father, Tiznow, went on to win back to back Breeders’ Cup Classic in the 2000-01 edition of the race , and his son will face with a tough lineup including Flat Out, Havre de Grace and Uncle Mo.
