Tjasa Oder conquers Women’s 1500m freestyle title: Day five – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
Day five of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships began in brilliant fashion with scintillating splash of Slovenia’s swimmer, Tjasa Oder in freestyle final meet in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, August 20. The session of the championship conducted the Women’s
1500m freestyle meet.
In the corresponding splash, Oder hit the wall in 16 minutes and 18.63 seconds to win the gold medal. More importantly, Oder beat Elena Sokolova’s meet record of 16 minutes and 28.77 seconds, set back in 2008. That splash moved her to Number 17 place in
the current rankings of world swimming. After the race, Oder was really excited and pleased with her swim.
Meanwhile, Rachel Zilinskas of United States took home the silver medal on the podium by submitting a stunning time of 16 minutes and 18.85 seconds. That swim moved her to top Number 20 place in the world rankings. Spain’s Claudia Dasca snared the bronze
medal in the platform by posting a matchless time of 16 minutes and 24.30 seconds.
In the corresponding meet, Michelle Weber of South Africa was placed fourth with an impressive time of 16 minutes and 27.14 seconds and Maria Vidal Vilas of Spain wound up fifth in a time of 16 minutes and 27.75 seconds.
Australia’s Bonnie Macdonald was placed sixth in a time 16 minutes and 31.59 seconds, while Gillian Ryan of United States of America wound up seventh with a time of 16 minutes and 40.49 seconds. Donata Kilijanska of Poland settled eighth in a time of 16
minutes and 42.75 seconds.
Tabitha Baumann of Canada was placed ninth with a mark of 16 minutes and 47.61 seconds and Giulia Gabrielleschi of Italy finished tenth in 16 minutes and 50.58 seconds.
Additionally, Tjasa Oder’s team-mate wound up eleventh with a time of 16 minutes and 57.71 seconds. Angelica Andre of Portugal was placed twelfth in 17 minutes and 03.68 seconds. Last, but not the least, Annagrazia Bonsanti of Venezuela surprisingly earned
fifteenth place honours with a time of 17 minutes and 30.63 seconds.
