Tkachenko revealed that the Makhachkala-based club were looking to sign a defender but ended up by signing the 26-year-old French midfielder as a potential replacement to their experienced midfielder.
“We planned to sign a defender but an injury to Ahmedov persuaded us to buy a midfielder. Mourinho decided to sell the midfielder as Diarra was entering the last year of his contract. The deal was a difficult, but the structure
of the club worked accordingly.” The 42-year-old was quoted as saying.
Tkachenko went on to lament UEFA’s refusal to allow the Dagestani club to hold UEFA Europa League matches at their home stadium, saying that the entire squad along with the fans are upset with the decision.
The governing body banned the Makhachkala-based club, saying that it is unsafe to hold the European matches at heart of Dagestan due to the growing incidents of misbehaved local fans and clashed after the final whistle.
Anzhi have been told to play their home matches at Lokomotiv stadium (Moscow) after the Russian outfit appealed against the management committee’s questionable decision.
“Suleyman Kerimov, the management of the club and the leadership of the republic of Dagestan were furious with the decision. However, they have been told that they cannot host teams this season after enforcing a ban. They asked
us to provide more guarantees for safety.” He concluded.
