To Canada snowbirds who fly to Florida for winter..?

If my husband and I live in Toronto in summer and in Florida in the winter, do you buy health insurance for USA or are you covered by OHIP in some way?

  1. check the link below.  OHIP does provide a degree of coverage for those travelling outside the country.  (I'd still get health insurance)


  2. You REALLY need to buy health insurance for the US.  OHIP will only cover you in Canada

I drive to Florida every winter, and I will not set foot out of Ontario with out the extra health insurance.  If you ever have to go to the doctor down there with out insurance you could lose your house, car, etc etc...the prices for health care down there is unbelievable...I have seen some of the doctor bills for just a simple overnight stay in the hospital, I can't imagine what a long stay with intensive care, emergency operation etc etc...My advice...get the insurance,..
