To Honor and Serve looks in good shape to take on his rivals in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing
Some runners perform after coming off a decent layoff, and To Honor and Serve safely falls in that category of horses after he showed how menacing he can be when he is well rested.
It was an authoritative performance at Saratoga on 26 August, 2011, when he won by a decisive 8 ¼ lengths over Slevin, under jockey John Velazquez, at Saratoga, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles, with a winning time of 1 minute and 48.31 seconds.
However, his comeback race was at Saratoga, under jockey Javier Castellano, running in the 6 ½ furlong Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes.
The race was held on 1 August, 2011, and the son of Bernardini, out of Pilfer by Deputy Minister, To Honor and Serve, finished a distant sixth.
His competition had the likes of Caleb’s Posse, Redeemed and Wine Police, who also were the top three finishers with a winning time of 1 minute and 15.88 seconds.
Now, the William Mott trained 3-year-old colt is pointed to run in the Grade 2, $1 million Pennsylvania Derby on 24 September, 2011, at Parx Racing Philadelphia Park.
To Honor and Serve will return to stakes' company after his allowance claimer endeavour, in a field of nine, including the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes' winner, Ruler on Ice.
The 1 1/8 mile race is restricted to 3-year-olds.
Ruler on Ice is considered as the lukewarm 5/2 morning line favourite, but in light of his last performance, To Honor and Serve may go off as the post time favourite.
As a two-year-old, To Honor and Serve went out on a rampage after breaking his maiden in his second attempt, over a distance of 1 1/16 miles at Belmont Park, on 2 October, 2010.
The Live Oak Plantation owned colt went on to bag back-to-back grade 2 races at the Aqueduct dirt course.
On 6 November, 2010, To Honor and Serve landed his first graded stakes' win in the shape of Grade 2 Nashua Stakes, over a mile, as he defeated Mucho Macho Man with a winning time of 1 minute and 35.86 seconds.
His third run was in the Grade 2 Remsen, over a distance of 1 1/8 miles, and he again downed Mucho Macho Man under jockey John Velazquez.
Now, To Honor and Serve looks in good shape to conquer his upcoming debacle, the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing.
