To Honor and Serve read to post another victory in the Met Mile at Belmont Park
The Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes is sweeping all the interest with, I’ll Have Another on the brink of making history in the “Test of the Champion” but there are other important races other than the Belmont Stakes which shouldn’t be overlooked.
Like the Memorial Day race that are just around the corner on the 26 to 28 May, 2012, and the race that has many anticipating for long is the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap on 28 May, 2012, at Belmont Park over a distance of 1 mile on dirt that has reeled
in eight, 3-year-old and above colts and geldings,
The Live Oak Plantation’s homebred, To Honor and Serve has completed his preparations for the Met Mile Handicap in grand style with a five furlong breeze in 1 minute and 0.3 seconds.
The Bill Mott trained 4-year-old Bernardini colt has won four of his last five races, and his only blemish came in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic last fall at Churchill Downs.
The Kentucky bred colt closed out his 2011 season with a win in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct racetrack over a mile, and defeated the likes of Hymn Book in second and Calibrachoa in third with the winning time of 1 minute and 33.89 seconds.
However, the most significant win to the Met Mile for To Honor and Serve was in the Grade 3 Westchester Stakes, which is run over the Met Mile’s course and distance.
Bill Mott will be sending out another star of his barn, Principal Role in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes at about 1 3/8 mile over the Belmont Park’s turf course.
“The race she ran in the other day was a mile and sixteenth,” said Mott, in reference to the Beaugay. “She was closing at the end. I ran her in the Beaugay because I had no other place to run with more distance. She was ready at the end of April, and I couldn’t
find a race, so I used the Beaugay to get started. She’s run quite a number of races at 10 furlongs, and she seemed to handle it OK. It could be the difference with her style.”
