To Kill a Mockingbird Current Event help. ?

For english i have to find 15 current events that mirror an even person or element in the book, a different chapter for each event. I need help with ideas and finding them. Here is what i have so far:

Journal 2 (Chapter 5)

-award winning cake bakers (Miss Maudie)

-children gone crazy due to abusive parent/s

Journal 3 (Chapter 7)

-people filling tree holes with cement, b/c tree is dying

(chapter 8)

-snow in the south (Alabama)

- house catching on fire

(Chapter 9)

-black man accused of raping a white woman

-cousin beating/killing another cousin for verbal abuse of parent

(Chapter 10)

-mad/rabid dogs wandering around

(Chapter 11)

-morphine addict survivors, who beat the addiction

(Chapter 14)

-runaway children with step parents

(Chapter 15)

-legal entailment's for farmers

(Chapter 16)

-trial of a black man accused of raping a white woman

(Chapter 18)

-girl/victim who lies during a court case to protect relative from harm

(Chapter 20)

-a jury which decides the accused is guilty, when they all know he is innocent

(Chapter 23)

-good lawyers being threatened or killed by bad poor men who are afraid

(Chapter 24)

-prisoners on death row try to escape yet are killed in the process

(Chapter 28)

-children attacked while walking home

(Chapter 30)

-man full of rage tries to kill children, but dies in the process

(Chapter 31)

-man who is disgusted and afraid of the world so much he chooses to stay in his house than venture outside

Any help/tips would be great. Best answer for best help.

There are numerous on line resources to help you with this novel, and with questions such as this one.  Many of them offer chapter summaries, list of characters, character sketches, discussions of themes, setting, imagery, and symbolism, etc.  Do a search for “study guides for To Kill a Mockingbird” etc., and you will find many sites.  Also, do a search here on yahoo answers for To Kill a Mockingbird and you will find a wealth of information.  


  2. For chapter 10, the mad/rabid dog wandering around mirrors a Stephen King novel called Cujo.

    Chapter 31, mirrors a character from a TV show called October Road called Physical Phil.
