Question:

To Navy Chiefs (Retired or current) and/or spouses?

My husband is currently a CPO Selectee and awaiting "the best day of his life" when he gets his anchors. He's asked me to sign his charge book if I would like and I am looking for advice on what to say. I know that other Chiefs who sign the book are to pass on words of wisdom and such but as a spouse I don't feel I can say anything like that since I've never been a Chief! I was wondering if there were any Chiefs out there who would be able to give me some advice as to what they would have liked their spouses to say to them as well as some advice from the spouses of what you might have written in their books. I want to express my love and appreciation for his hard work and dedication but I'm not very eloquent. I want it to be special but still "me".

Much thanks to all and bless you for your service!

  1. HOOYAH!

I never made chief - I was a petty officer ( you know that!) but I'm up for an officers commission and one thing stuck with me all my time in the service:  The advice I got from my mother and from home from my dad as I got promoted and as I weigh responsibility that is coming to me.

When the Navy is over (and it will be someday) you'll still be there, though he will hang up his anchors -  which makes your counsel and advice even more relevant.

You might tell him "you've always been the "chief"...just the navy is finally figuring it out - naval intelligence...slow as usual...go figure!"
