Question:

To Skim or not to Skim?

I live in Florida, the beach all around me, and this summer I'm hoping to take advantage of that. I'm thinking about skim boarding. It eliminates sharks at least. I've never surfed or body boarded, and am in no way athletic, ha. So, for you people in the sporty-know, do you think it'd be naive or dangerous to think that I could just buy a skim board and learn on my own? If so, what might you suggest that I try instead?

  1. Skimboarding is by no means a sport that you would need to be taught. Unlike Surfing and other water sports, the best way to learn about skimboarding is to just try it. You'll fall, a lot, but stick with it. It can be fun.

  2. yes skim

  3. yes try it

  4. I would consider if for you but you have to be carefull.  To skim you have to be fast, agile, and have good balance.  Also I have skimboarded for 4 years maybe and it just comes natural for me I would give it a try, but just buy a wood board to start.  Once you get better get a Zap, Victoria, or Exile foma/fiberglass board.  These will allow you to skim on waves.
