To The Sky in contention with the improved filly, Purple, in the Meath Handicap
Twenty-one entered for the Meath Handicap are seeking their share in the €6,900 prize money. The mile and two furlong race will be held at Navan on Wednesday, 10th October. Even though there is a diverse collection to choose from, the potential
of majority lined up is down low.
The Saffron Walden’s four-year-old bay gelding, To The Sky, is backed by 7 to 1 odds for the race today which is due to the success that he posted through the last outing.
The Ms. Joanna Morgan trained has raced seven times ever since the new season shot in, and could win only during the most recent attempt.
The Irish bay gelding won the Derek O’Sullivan Memorial Apprentice Handicap on 30th September, 2012 at Curragh over a mile and two furlongs. He had drawn the first gate, but stayed in the background during the initial furlongs of the race.
He stayed on the inside, and had progressed quite a bit when the final two furlongs still remained to be raced over. Heading front in the final furlong had him defeating Silver Shuffle, by 2 ¾ lengths.
The winner was paired up with jockey, Colin Keane.
Even though the race course this time is different, the distance along with the ground conditions that are heavy, are the same. He will break from the tenth stall, and will be guided through the track distance by jockey, W. J. Lee.
Cutting down on his chances of success is the three-year-old bay filly, Purple. She has won during the current season, and has the experience of racing at Navan in this and the previous season too.
She ended third and then scored a second position when racing at Navan.
The Aidan O’Brien trained settled as the runner-up in the Garlow Cross 3YO Handicap on 9th June, 2012 at Navan over a mile and two furlongs. Galileo’s daughter was entered as the favourite for race, but lost it by the massive margin of eight lengths.
Four races down the line have improved the filly’s form and, her chances of excelling in the race today.
She is paired up with the stable jockey, Joseph O’Brien.
