This question is directed to those who actually gotten into physical fight before with someone. What happens to you (consequences) when the cops arrived and the victim presses charge on you? Of course this assume that you are attack first and made a few injuries on the other person such as nose bleeding, and a few bruises.

  1. I've been in a few bar fights when I was younger and that was at a time when people didn't call the police for everything.. they let the fighters settle things on their own.  If you started it then YOU are the one who is going to get the fine but if there are no witnesses as to who started it, then it's YOUR word against HIS word.. and it will be thrown out of court.

Next time.. take it out on a deserted back road.

  2. i'm not sure. i've only ever fought back and the police were never involved.

i think the other person could press charges like assault and you will have to try and get out of it

  3. I should think you'd be charged with assault of some sort.  Where I live, it would probably be "assault occasioning actual bodily harm".

  4. It says 'assume that you are attack first' ...the way that sounds is you are attackED first, so you are defending yourself?

If thats the case and their is witnesses - you should have nothing to worry about.

If there are no witnesses its usually your word against his, a good chance both of you MAY recieve very minimal jailtime (if you are 18+) or community service if its was in a public area.

As for pressing charges, usually all they can do is a fine or charge you with assault...

  5. Depends on the situation. If you randomly punch granny in the face im assuming your going to get charged with some sort of assault probably along with a hefty fine. As for just punches and blood, perhaps nothing. It all depends on if the person who presses charges on you has evidence that you were the person who hit them. Usually if its a "fight" nobody will get in trouble regardless of who starts it due to lack of any evidence.
