  1. My parents left Austria because of the Russian occupation after W.W.II.  They were afraid Austria was going to be split like Germany was.  I just passed my 50th year in the U.S.  I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in California (we Austrians need our mountains, right?).  I visit Austria regularly, and I am really proud when I manage to "pass" as an Austrian rather than a foreigner because I've worked so hard on keeping the language.  (Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger is our Governor, I always get comments about the fact that both my German and my English are better than his.)
