I saw this movie last night and although it was very entertaining, it deeply offended my faith and I know why the church is against the movie, I would like to know what your thoughts on this film are and if you have seen it.

  1. I watched the movie. I found it very entertaining. Using the Catholic Church in the movie industry is nothing new. I love scary movies, like the Exorcist. I also loved The Passion of Christ.

I don't give credence to Anti-Catholicism in the movie industry. They are just that, Movies not documentaries.

As a mother, I would monitor anything my kid watches. Small children need guidance. Exposing them to these kinds of movies gives way to showing them how people abuse our church. They will have to learn that early on. You know as well as I do,  this is old news. It's not likely to stop.

The Catholic Church sells. People have a fetish about her. If it didn't Hollywood would have quit using her a long time ago.

  2. I've never seen it or don't know what it's about.

  3. Entertaining movie, yes. Defaming the catholic religion, most deffinetly.

Much worse if you read the books though and i will leave it at that. After all the books not only goes after the church but Jesus Christ and God himself!

They tuned the movie down from the book as to get the casual movie goer to watch. After all they didn't want another Last tempation of Christ" on their hands!

  4. haven't seen it and won't.  I'm not giving a dollar to support any atheistic movie.

    God bless.

  5. In my standards it was okay, but like you, I found things in it that were deeply offensive to Catholicism - like who the girl's quest was to 'kill God' and teaching kids that God has nothing to do with anything. Being a fantasy movie flick, you could see how it mocked C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, and to a point of it being extremely anti-Catholic.

  6. To be honest I was bored in the first 30 minutes and didn't watch the rest, it reminds me of Da vinchi ALL fiction and gains Notoriety and a bigger audience through Controversy which Directors love Free publicity. Other then that it was Rubbish for the time that I did watch it, I'm a LOTR fan more myself!.

Edit;I still have  the Dvd I will watch it to see, it wouldn't surprise me.

  7. i think it's a kid movie, just like narnia and harry potter

  8. well, i am a christian, a devout one at that, and i read the threee books and i absolutely loved them.

i saw nothing wrong with the imagination. i knew it was saying some things...but i choose to not let that affect my faith or my life. i just enjoy the great literature.

the movie might be diff (never seen it. afriad it will ruin the books) but i think its ok to enjoy some fantasy and things like that.

    EDIT:

like at points in the book i was like "this is SO wrong" so i just moved past it or decided to say a prayer saying this is not what i would want to happen, or be real. i know what is, who is, and that i trust him with all my heart.

i understand your hesitansy, but its just a movie.

I don't think Go will punish you too harshly for that....?

we won't be sure until we die though, so enjoy your life, ok? don't let things obstruct you, but if something feels wrong its always better to go with that gut instinct b/c we all know who it is, correct?

  9. Well, definitely not a Catholic/Christian, but I did read the books years ago and enjoyed them thoroughly. The movies, however, left me wanting. I really do not understand how someone can be offended on behalf of their faith by this movie......As a non-believer in your god can you imagine how many movies I could be offended by if I let them??

*Then I suggest you do not let your children watch them, just as I will not allow my children to watch any movies glorifying your god. There you go. Problem solved. No one is forcing you to watch, you chose to, knowing full well the controversy. What did you expect? You can either try and be entertained or you can look for an offense at every turn.

  10. This movie doesn't look bad, but if your offend by it I think you need to relax or take a reality check or do both. I don't know weather its the parallel universes,  or the evil monsters. Does it offend you that there using science. Seriously does your church say Harry Potter is evil. When I was religious Harry Potter didn't offend me at all. It isn't evil either once again it is just a work of fiction. If you get offend by a movie like I said before you need to chill or stop listening to your church. God never said anything about watching movies.

  11. I did not and do not think of it.

  12. I've haven't seen the Golden Compass, I would like to watch the movie to see if it is really as bad as every one says. (I always like to judge for my self as you have done) I can't believe that they would call the evil place Magestarium, any one who has study Catholicism  knows what Magestarium means to Catholics.  Why would they do that?

I also heard that at the end of book series the kids kill God. But I have not read the books nor do I have time.

  13. Although I don't have anything against anyone watching the movie of reading the books, I know the author intended it to be an atheistic story about how evil the Church is and killing God and all of that.  Because this was his intent, I don't want to support him in any way.
