  1. drugs, gangs, suicides... the answer is not gun control.  Criminals don't obey the law.  Do we really want guns to only be available in the black market?  That would mean law-abiding citizens would be defenseless against those who would like to rob, rape and murder us.

Does england have the drug and gang problems we do?

  2. Here in the US we have more crime in general. We have very bad gangs and a legal system that is ineffective.

You can get caught redhanded doing all kinds of crimes and be released on probation.

We let criminals run wild, and due to lax security illegal guns flow into the US in huge quantities.

Also, in the US we need warrants for everything imaginable. I don't know the UK policy on such things, but its pretty crazy in the US.

I own a gun and I've never had to fire it. Yet. But one of the greatest things about the US is an armed population. The highest amount of legal guns is in the rural areas. Rural areas also have no crime. The lowest amount of legal guns are in urban areas. Urban areas have the most crime. The correlation is pretty obvious.

A lack of gun control isn't the problem. The problem is a surplus of criminals and a shortage of prisons.

Jacacaca is dead wrong. The issue isn't access to legal firearms, its access to illegal firearms. Here's a neat tidbit: only one legal machine gun has ever been used in a crime. It was a cop who did it.

I could drive into a bad neighborhood and buy any kind of illegal gun I wanted for less than a legal one would cost. I don't because I obey laws. So I go through the system. And it takes forever in California. The issue isn't legal access, its illegal access.

  3. AMERICANS STILL HAVE A FRONTIER, 'SHOOT 'EM FIRST THEN ASK QUESTIONS' ATTITUDE. WE ARE INSENSITIVE RUGGED INDIVIDUALISTS. LOOK AT HOW WE ACT TODAY. WE ARE GREEDY, SELF-CENTERED, AND STILL DEMAND THAT THE WORLD DO OUR BIDDING.

  4. We are better shots.

  5. 1) gangs

    2) liberals take officers of the street so black market dealers can thrive

    3) gun control laws make people want a gun like drug laws make people want to do drugs because it is illegal

    4) extremists, we have a lot of extremists

  6. BECAUSE WE LET THE CRIMNALS GET OFF TOO EASY, IN OUR COURTS !! I'M TIRED OF SEEING BARS ON THE CITIZENS WINDOWS AND DOORS....... AND THE CRIMNALS OUTSIDE !!

  7. more guns here than there and more people.

    better to use per capita

  8. There's no explanation. Gun control nor gun possession doesn't lower crime at all in America. Many instances of gun control have correlated to raised crime (see source book below. That will help you).

  9. Fear.  People own and use guns because they are afraid of their neighbors.

    Fight or flight.

I'll get thumbs down, but it's the truth.

  10. Gun control, plain and simple.  A lot of the NRA nuts are going to come out lashing me for saying that, but it's true.

If American's didn't have such easy access to firearms, the number of gun-related deaths would decrease.  Also, I don't believe that any citizen should own anything other than a basic semi-automatic pistol or a rifle / shotgun.  Assault rifles are not for protection - they are killing as many people as possible in a short time period.

The fact that we're basically a more violent society than the British doesn't help the situation either...

  11. More people , more guns and more freedom leads to more conflicts. And gun control laws have not helped they have removed guns from law abiding citizens and only allowed the criminals to have guns.

  12. Look at the size of England and compare it to the United States. Thats one factor.

Without a doubt another factor is our ease of gun sales to anbody and everybody. People try to blame the media and shows on TV, but the fact is, there woudnt be as much violence if there was gun control.  Why would you need a gun if no one has it besides law enforcement? Look at the deaths by gun shootings in Detroit and compare it to the neighboring cities in Canda only a few miles away.

  13. Guns do not always mean more crime. Crime is just easier with a gun. In many places crime is less where there are guns, because the criminal knows someone probably has a gun.

In Washington, DC, the crime rate went UP after the gun ban, that was just recently canceled. People need also to be trained how to properly use a gun and keep out the hands of children. ( I do not happen to own a hand gun, I prefer ancient firearms 1860's).

  14. More freedom goes both ways. More freedom to live, more freedom to die; more freedom to kill. I bet the murder rate in Sadams Iraq was pretty low (except for those his family carried out)!

  15. America is a crazy nationalistic government built on the dollar. Their media scares people as well.

  16. America is a larger country with more population...I bet England's numbers are higher than you say but thats just a guess...

  17. I'm not sure I believe your numbers, however we have a larger population, so you would have to break it down per capita.

Unfortunately, it is harder for a citizen to buy a gun legally than illegally.  Except for a shotgun which requires no permit at all (NY state ).

A large part of those shot every year are accidental shootings by untrained owners and children of gun owners.  More safety education would help.

If we required a permit for the gun AND the ammunition criminals would have a harder time.
