Will the $35 cheap ones work?

Or do I need something better?

What do you recommend for a good quality bag/training, velcro (not lace up) glove??

Thanks!

  1. IMO, buy the best now. By the time you buy the cheap gloves, you'll end up needing more than one pair,as they'll fall apart on you. Therefore, buy the good ones now and be happy. Get the 12 oz. Grant or Reyes  (GRANT) super bag glove with velcro. I've used up to 20 oz. on the heavybag, using the heavier gloves for body workout routine. Really helps in developing power and strength. Good luck.

  2. I have just begun to delve into the surface of pugilism-- I purchased a moderately priced pair of 16oz leather, velcro enclosure, super bag gloves from Ringside.  There are gloves created from manmade materials-- but it seems like they would deconstruct faster.  When purchasing the gloves I tried to be honest about my commitment to training-- why buy the top of the line s**z if there is reasonable potential for the sport to be a novelty pursuit?  Its probably a good idea to practice wraping your hands too.  Gloves will come and go--  just protect the integrity of your hands.  Ultimately-- anything is going to "work" depending on the job you are trying to get done.

  3. it depends on how often you train. when i first started, I went through 2 pairs of the cheap everlast boxing gloves within 3 months ( i train 5-6 days a week). after moderate use, the padding on the cheap gloves wear down rapidly and start to shift away from the point of contact, leaving your knuckles unprotected. I finally decided to purchase a pair of cleto reyes (about $130) and later bought some 10oz winning gloves (about $200) strictly for bag work. The winning glove offers a level of hand protection other gloves can't offer (cause of the hi & lo density foam they use). Just remember you get what you pay for. Their are plenty of moderate priced gloves to choose from. If you are able to spend around $60-$90, Rival and Everlast  makes a solid glove. Also look at Grant gloves; Some of the top boxers in the world swear by them. titleboxing.com has a good selection of gloves to browse through.

  4. actually that add says they are 24.99 which is even better. they are great bag gloves and will suit you just fine. It would also suit you well to get small bag gloves (like 8-10 oz) to work on turning your fist all the way over and speed. bag gloves don't need to be expensive wait till you start sparing to get some real nice gloves.
