Question:

To all my australian friends. What is the status of the NHL and are there may fans?

And is there a pro ice hockey league in Australia. Cause that would be a cool place to play hockey. If were to randomely go through australia and ask random people about the Stanley Cup how may out of a hundred would know the answer. Hypthetically ofcourse since i can't exaclty fly over there myself right now and find out

  1. No Sparky, unfortunately there is no Ice Hockey in Australia. No NHL games are shown on free to air TV, but Foxtel (pay TV) shows 2 games a week during the season.

    Here in Aussieland, our most popular sports are Australian rules football, soccer, cricket & rugby league. I'd hate to admit it, but in my opinion there would only be around 1-2 out of 300 people that would actually be a true fan of an NHL team. Shame, because it's a bloody GREAT sport!!

    To answer your question, around 1 person out of 70 or 80 would know about the Stanley Cup.


  2. My bf is an Aussie who loves hockey. Though he only became really interested when he moved to Canada about 6 years ago.

    I'm actually surprised as to how many Aussie hockey fans there are, I met 2 on myspace in the last year, and one of my bf's friends in Australia is a Toronto fan, married a lady from Toronto (even they have fun fighting over the Habs and the leafs lol)
