  1. Having homework in Pre-k is strange.  The work should be kept at school.  However, since she is getting some I would suggest trying to make it more fun somehow.  Depending on what the work is.  If she's counting give her real manipulatives to count.  Coloring, maybe make it into some kind of game.  I really can't imagine what kind of homework she'd have, but just try to make it fun for her!

  2. A lot of times children get bored with an activity b/c it is either advanced for them and they need something more on their level or she is too advanced for the activity and she needs more of a challenge. I am a preschool teacher and I send "homework" home once a week...usually a letter or word or concept we are working on. This informs the parent on what we are working on and helps them help their own child.

With the commentor before my comment...yes, we work on social skills, but also physical, cognitive and emotional. When you get to "big school" as my kids call it, the social skills are a little less practiced. Why not prepare the children for all aspects of their development?

  3. i fully agree with you in this regard. i m totally against giving a pre schooler any homework, for that matter. i m a headmistess in a preschool & we never give homework to our kids.we give very creative assignments like collecting pictures of fruits/vegetables/animals etc, or asking then to bring a big pebble & small pebble, or a long & short stick/pencil etc.children love to do these assignments & this enhances the learning & makes learning fun & permanent. they dont get bored with those monotomous written work that does no good to them.so dont u worry too much & let the kid relax.

  4. Homework?  She is four years old!  Her work is child's play.  Is that the only preschool in your area?  This child is going to be burned out by the rime she enters Kindergarten.  Talk to the director and let her know you support their idea of education being very important, but that your child needs more play time as a 4 year old.  Consider changing preschools if you can't reach an understanding on the issue.  There are many of them, find your fit.

  5. What kind of pre school teacher gives the child homework.  I teach 4 year old kindergarten and my children never have homework.  They will occusionally take things home that they did not finish up with in class and want to finish it at home but I never require it.  Consider switching preschools

  6. I agree with you completely.  Preschool should focus on social skills.  It is great to teach them, but the most important thing to teach is a love for learning.

Children need time to play when they get home.  Preschool has become too academic, mainly because kindergartens today expect them to know too much before they enter.  As a past preschool/kindergarten/first grade teacher, I now call kindergarten "Little First Grade"
