What colleges/degrees/majors and minors would you recommend for a person hoping to work in the U.S. Foreign Service as a Political Affairs or Public Diplomacy officer?

I am also trying to concentrate on the East Asia region.

  1. international relations!!!! u shld combine it wif economics or history n tek at least 1 language course! and also courses like politics n governance culd do as well

  2. History major, English minor..take a look at the reading list for the foreign service officers exam....that will give you some guidance as to what type of skill set and what courses or major will get you those.

I'm not a diplomat, but I am currently studying and prepping for the foreign service exam and have been given some wonderful advice....Also foreign language....particularly regional dialects in the area you would like assignment to.

I have done a submerssion language program, but am now working with a local tutor from the region I hope to be assigned to.
